At Black Dog we design and make a unique range of decorative relief tiles in natural frost proof terracotta. Designs are based on carvings, tapestries and engravings from all periods. These original wall decorations sell well through a variety of outlets associated with cathedrals, museums and historical centres as well as galleries & gift shops. With a RRP of £14-£15, they make imaginative and affordable gifts.

New Customers - are you thinking about giving our products a go?
Our unique terracotta tiles sell well through a wide range of outlets. We do however understand there are risks in trying an unfamiliar product. There are inevitable questions such as 'will these appeal to my customers?' and 'what happens if I get stuck with stock that does not sell?'
We hope to alleviate such worries by providing a generous 6 month trial run on the first order. This offer comprises of a package of 24 tiles plus a stand. If after 6 months you have unsold stock you may decide not to continue. We will refund the remaining stock and cover the cost of return carriage. If you do order again within 6 months the offer is no longer valid.
This offer only applies to UK mainland outlets.
As this website is mainly set up for mail order, we do not publish trade prices. To obtain our prices please fill in the contact form below.
We publish a trade brochure every year. It is usually printed by the end of December in time for trade shows held in January. For all existing customers we post a copy as soon as it is printed but we do keep extra copies for new clients who may be considering stocking our tiles.
We keep good stocks of all our designs so we can turn orders around in 1 to 3 days. Once your parcel is packed we book in a collection for the following day with delivery the day after. Our courier service is currently provided by UPS.
Our tiles are mounted on a specially designed presentation card with some details about the business on the back. We apply a printed label to the back which provides some interesting background information about the design and it also includes a unique EAN-13 barcode.
Each tile is supplied in a bubble bag which is unsealed. This means it can be reused when the tiles are sold.
If you use barcodes, we respectfully ask that you make use of the ones supplied with each design. Our attractive backing cards contain information about the products which would be lost if obscured by large barcode and/or pricing labels. We really do appreciate any efforts made to minimise the use of large labels.
Shops that also have a mail order service might like to use custom made postal boxes to post our tiles. Our postal boxes are just the right dimensions to accommodate our tiles. The bubble bag with tile fits snuggly inside the box. This box fits the Royal Mail's large letter post helping to keep your postage costs down.
To show our plaques at their best, we have two purpose designed compact stands to suit a variety of spaces in your shop. These are made of environmentally friendly natural brown card and we despatch it to you ready assembled and free with your first order. We are happy to replace tired stands free of charge.
If you have hanging systems in your shop then we have an alternative option. Our presentation cards can also be hung with the addition of an attractive jute cord. There is no extra cost for having jute cords.
It is hard to know what designs will sell well in your outlet until you give them a try. It is inevitable that there will be a design or two that struggles to sell in which case we are happy to swap these for other designs and we cover all carriage costs.
If any tiles or backing cards are damaged then we will happily swap these and cover all carriage costs.
We believe in supporting all manufacturing in Britain. Every part of your order is produced by a British company. Of course the tiles are made by us at our workshop in the City of Bath.
Terracotta clay comes from Valentine Clays in Stoke-on-Trent.
Tile presentation cards and display stands are made by SH Fiske in Bristol.
Labels on the back of the presentation cards are supplied by Flexilabels in Peterborough.
Bubblewrap products are supplied by PH Flexible Packaging in Swadlincote.
Shipping boxes are supplied by ASC Direct in Shipley.
Why not commission us to produce a special terracotta tile?
As a design-led business we are always happy to discuss your ideas and can supply a rough sketch with no commitment on your part. The origination fee starts at £400 and rises depending on the complexity of the design and whether you want the tile to remain exclusive to you.
From design to finished product takes about 7 to 10 weeks. There is a minimum first order of 50 units charged at our regular prices.
We have developed a new header label designed to fit on the front of the backing cards which can be customised with text and a logo. A large label on the back of the card has space to be customised with an image of the reference used, commissioning notices and website along with the tile’s story and barcode. These labels are designed to help the customer to connect the design to the place it originated from. There are no additional costs for these labels.
We have larger story labels to stick on the back of the presentation card. These can be customised with an image, logo, specific notices, story and barcode. It is a good way to help reinforce the bespoke product.
For organisations who would like our tiles to support an exhibition, we have a generous offer to buy back whatever is left at the end of your exhibition.

Firstly, thank you very much for being a stockist of our tiles. If it has been a full 18 months since your last order, sales have flatlined and you have tiles remaining you are welcome to return them. We will cover the cost of shipping from any UK address and provide a refund by BACS. Please get in touch with us before sending anything back.
