Have Mynde

Inscription: HAVE MYNDE

‘Have Mynde’ (Remember) to consider one’s mortality, has become the motto of The Hospital of St Cross, which was founded in 1132 by the Bishop of Winchester, Henri de Blois. It is the oldest continuously used Almshouse in England. The Hospital was to accommodate and provide for thirteen poor men who became the Brothers of St Cross. Today the it is home to 25 Brothers and consist of Brothers quarters, Brethren’s Hall, the Hundred Men’s Hall, gardens and chapel where the tile with motto, if found.
