Butterfly

The Peacock butterfly appears against a rich pattern of flowers, based on the mille-fleurs tapestries. The butterfly’s large eyespots along with the ability to make a hissing sound by rubbing its wings together must startle or confuse predators. The dark wing undersides camouflage it well against dark hibernation places such as hollow trees, wood piles and outbuildings. It is very mobile and their range seems to be expanding with sightings from new areas being recorded every year.
