Kingfisher
The kingfisher with its distinctive blue and orange plumage can be seen perched on branches overlooking slow moving streams or ponds. They feed mainly on small fish such as minnows and sticklebacks and need to eat about their own bodyweight in fish each day. They excavate their 60-90cm long nest burrow in sandy soil banks clear of vegetation where they raise 2-3 broods each year.
