Swan (1986)

This is a design which often fails in production so we no longer make it. When drying the weak connections between the swan and the circular surround nearly always crack and separate which means the the swan often falls away from the ring. If we can succeed in making a complete tile then it is very fragile which means we won't post it as it is likely to break through the postal system.

The design is based on a medieval drawing. The swans of Wells have traditionally been taught to ring a bell next to the drawbridge to ask for their bread. The Queen presented a pair of swans to commemorate the 800th anniversary of the Bishop’s Palace.

Fixing Points: One hole: at the top of the tile
Dimensions: 11.2cm
