Inscription: FORTUNA DOMUS
The vine leaves are based on a 16th century carved bench-end in Crowcombe Church
in the Quantock Hills, Somerset. Inscribed are the words, attributed to the classical poet Virgil, ‘Fortuna Domus’ which can be translated as ‘Good Fortune to this House’.
